Ingrid began this edition of Crosstalk with news concerning highly touted college quarterback Tim Tebow and the controversy that surrounds him because he participated in a pro-life ad that is set for airing on CBS during the Super Bowl.

Peggy Hartshorn is the president of Heartbeat International, an interdenominational ministry that got started even before the 1973 Roe decision.

Peggy began by going back in time and describing the sociopolitical environment that existed surrounding abortion during that era; an era when the same organizations that are pushing abortion today were in force, attempting to legalize abortion state by state.

The founders of Heartbeat International (formerly Alternatives to Abortion International) saw that unless women had a safety net or a network of care, women would feel pressured toward having an abortion.

Peggy believes that crisis pregnancy centers are one of the major reasons why the numbers of abortions are down. Heartbeat International is helping through their Urban Initiative which works to get pregnancy centers with ultrasound located in abortion hubs; places like Los Angeles.

In addition to the approximately 2,500 pregnancy centers, about 700 of which have ultrasound, Heartbeat International has a 24/7 service called "Option Line" that receives about 250,000 calls, e-mails and instant messages per year. That’s about 600 contacts per day. Through this service, if a woman calls 1-800-395-4357, or goes to www.optionline.org, they can be connected directly to their closest crisis pregnancy center.

Peggy goes into detail describing the fear that women feel when they find themselves in a crisis pregnancy and the various ways this can be overcome. She cites examples such as ultrasound, and help for women to realize that a crisis pregnancy is not the unforgivable sin.
