Muslim Honor Killing/Battle for Life in the Dominican Republic

Host:Vic Eliason
Guest:Joseph Antonio
Listen:RealAudio | Windows Media | MP3 | Order Tape or CD

The first quarter hour of Crosstalk takes a more detailed look at the story of Rifqa Bary, a 17 year old Ohio woman whose situation was detailed on the 8/17 Crosstalk. Rifqa converted from Islam to Christianity. Her Muslim father has threatened to kill her in what's known as an "honor killing". This is a Muslim tradition designed to supposedly cleanse the family name and the name of Islam.

Vic played a recording of Rifqa's heart-wrenching testimony that presents her side of the story. Vic told listeners that today, Florida officials would determine whether to allow Rifqa to stay in foster care in Florida, be forced to be returned to her Muslim parents, or be sent to Ohio Social Services.

The remainder of the program featured Joseph Antonio, a young man who's grown up on the mission field in three different countries over approximately the last 17 years.

Joseph detailed the overwhelmingly pro-life environment that's developed over time in the Dominican Republic; from recent constitutional reform that honors life from the moment of conception to pending law that would recognize marriage as being between one man and one woman.
