With the high cost of health care today, on the surface it would seem that nationalized health care would be "just what the doctor ordered." Canada, for example, has a single payer system. Private health insurance is illegal, and in addition, cash cannot be paid up front for a specialist.
Does this system work for urgent care needs? Shona Holmes, a Canadian and a brain tumor survivor is using her story to warn Americans about a Washington takeover of health care. After the Canadian government told her she'd have to wait six months for the urgent care she needed, she mortgaged her house and came to the U.S., where she received care that saved her life. Now she's speaking out against so-called health care reforms that put politicians and bureaucrats between patients and doctors.
