Obamacare Bad for the Nation's Health

James Lansberry is Vice-President of the Peoria-based Samaritan Ministries International. His articles have been published in "Heritage Forum," the "Journal of Modern Ministry," and he has also been interviewed by several major news publications.

Ron Greiner started in the insurance industry in 1987 as an agent for a large national insurance agency. In 1993 he started his own agency in Omaha, Nebraska, selling health and life insurance. In 1994 and 1995 Greiner's agency became the largest in the United States, selling health insurance for Time Insurance Company, America's oldest health insurance company. Consumers know Time Insurance Company as "Assurant Health."

They both discussed "Obamacare" or government controlled socialized health care, and concluded that it is bad for the nation's health. Even the arguments promoting the idea have been challenged or proven faulty, including the number of uninsured, which is highly inflated, while claims that they would be covered under a government-run program are disputed by those who say that even with socialized health care, millions will remain uninsured.

The tremendous cost of the proposal, which is admitted to being in the "trillions" of dollars, would be accompanied by a tangled web of government agencies that would absorb much of the cost of the program leaving far less money to actually pay for health care, resulting in rationing.

Despite skepticism over the Obama health care proposal, most people admit that some kind of health care reform is necessary. Senator Jim DeMint and others have put forward alternative plans that will minimize government intervention.

Ron Greiner explained the use of tax-free Medical Savings Accounts, which combined with tax deductions could dramatically reduce out-of-pocket health care costs, as low as zero for some. In addition, the free market could be restored to allow competition to reduce prices and improve the quality of health care.
