Health Care Disaster / Friday News Roundup

Host:Jim Schneider
Listen:RealAudio | Windows Media | MP3 | Order Tape or CD

Today's program began dissecting the proposals for government-controlled health care that are being pushed through Congress. Jim noted that there are a few government websites where at least some of proposals can be read. Other sites seek to make known provisions not acknowledged by President Obama, or by health care proponents in Congress.

Liberty Counsel has posted a comprehensive report on HR 3200, which is being developed in the House of Representatives. Just a few of the more disturbing provisions:

-The government will determine what benefits individuals will receive.
-Those running health care will have real-time access to personal finances, including electronic funds transfer.
-Doctors will be told how much they can make.
-An individual whose health care coverage is not acceptable to the government will be taxed 2.5% of income (in addition to regular income taxes).
-One provision even states that "The tax imposed under this section shall not be treated as tax"!

An additional concern is that the military has now been asked to assist in the event of a significant swine flu outbreak, which could include visits to homes to vaccinate the residents.

With our U.S. Representatives coming home for the August recess, and the Senators to follow a week later, this is an opportunity to communicate with them about health care and other issues of concern.
