Michael P. Farris, J.D., is the president of http://ParentalRights.org and is an expert on the intersection between U.S. constitutional and international law. Farris devotes much of his time to meeting with members of Congress and delivering speeches across the country in an effort to raise support for the passage of the Parental Rights Amendment, which he has been instrumental to author. Farris is also chairman of the Home School Legal Defense Association, which he founded in 1983, using his extensive experience in both politics and appellate litigation to defend parental rights and help grow that organization to over 80,000 member families.

Farris has written over a dozen books, including three novels, a constitutional law textbook and works on marriage, parenting, homeschooling, political advocacy and religious liberty. His daily radio program, Home School Heartbeat, airs on several hundred stations nationwide.

In America, parents have traditionally had the freedom to raise their children as they see fit. A serious threat, however, is looming on the horizon that could change all this.

The threat of concern is the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child. If ratified by our government, this treaty would allow public officials to substitute their decisions over those of the parents in all family related matters. This treaty would affect everything from spanking, which would be illegal, to whether you can require your children to go to church. In other words, parents would only have an advisory role in the lives of their children.
