Free Speech Threatened by Cyberbullying Legislation

Host:Vic Eliason
Guest:Peter LaBarbera
Listen:RealAudio | Windows Media | MP3 | Order Tape or CD

Peter LaBarbera, is president of Americans For Truth, a group dedicated to exposing the homosexual activist agenda.

Vic and Peter bagan by discussing the Meier Cyberbullying Prevention Act (HR 1966), an act that last month was introduced by California Representative Linda Sanchez. The act is named after Megan Meier who killed herself in 2006 after becoming the victim of a MySpace hoax created by the mother of a classmate. This legislation is of concern to those who feel it could endanger free apeech because it attempts to punish those who are said to be causing intimidation or harassment via electronic means.

Also discussed was a case from 2003 where Judge Sonia Sotomayor joined a Second Circuit order that allowed for government hostility toward Christianity. In 2000, Rev. Kristopher Okwedy and Keyword Ministries, Inc., put up a billboard sign quoting Leviticus 18:22 which says, “Thou shall not lie with a male as with a female -- it is an abomination.” The sign included the postscript, “I AM YOUR CREATOR.” Staten Island Borough President Guy Molinari called the display “mean spirited" and added that the Bible verse “conveys an atmosphere of intolerance which is not welcome in our Borough.”

Join Vic and Peter as they present the details of these two stories, the response by Crosstalk listeners, as well as what you can do to make a difference.
