Matt Bowman is an attorney from the Washington, DC Office of the Alliance Defense Fund. Matt Sande is Deputy State Director of Pro-life Wisconsin.
The University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics in Madison have announced plans to perform second-trimester abortions in a jointly-operated clinic with Meriter Hospital, to be held at the Madison Surgery Center. The plans would likely compel unwilling employees to aid or participate in dismembering preborn babies, which would violate their religious conscience rights and may constitute an unlawful state funding of abortion.
Attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund have sent a letter to the U.W. Hospitals and Clinics, asking that the institution refrain from implementing the potentially illegal plans. In addition, more than 100 demonstrators braved below-zero wind chills to protest the plans.
A vote could come soon by the UWHC board. Matt Sande urged citizens to contact the U.W. Hospitals and Clinics, the UW Medical Foundation, and Merroter Hospital, to express their concern about using tax funds for such a clinic, and also about forcing pro-life medical personnel to participate in these abortions.
