Should Christians Run for Office?

In Helena, Montana, the Lewis and Clark Public Library has voted to keep a book on the shelves that graphically promotes the homosexual lifestyle. In spite of a complaint by a concerned citizen, the librarian felt that the library needs to have books that represent all segments of society.

Randy Melchert was a 2008 candidate for State Assembly in Wisconsin's 24th district. As a 22 year old graduate student, he brings passion to the topic of encouraging people to make a difference in our nation.

Randy believes that voting is just the beginning of bearing responsibility as Christian citizens. In fact, voting is an activity that needs to be handled with greater efficiency if Christians want to see their worldview permeate society.
For example, Randy believes Christians are paying a lot of attention to the presidential race and not enough on elections at the lower levels. He noted how Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party will probably get only 250,000 votes which isn't nearly enough support to win the presidency. That same figure, however, would be enough to elect several Christian candidates in lower level offices.

From here Randy briefly looks at the issues that make Christian participation in government important, how to get started if you want to run for office, the necessary qualifications, what to do if you lose that first election, and more.
