Bailout a Colossal Mistake?

Stephen Bloom is an attorney with more than 20 years experience in private practice. He's also an economics professor as well as author of the book: The Believer's Guide to Legal Issues.
Stephen feels that judging from the recent vote on the revised bailout bill, legislators in Washington are reacting more to their friends and supporters on Wall Street than to the rest of America. He also feels that if passed, the bailout bill could be the biggest step the U.S. has ever taken toward socialism.
The revised version is 450 pages in size yet only 100 pages deal with the crisis. In addition, over the last 24 hours it went from a 700 billion dollar bill to approximately 812 billion dollars in size. The extra increase appears to be "pork" designed to lure House members that voted against the bill the first time.
How did we get to this point? What affect will this have on the U.S. dollar? Will this strengthen the position of the economic powerhouses of Asia? Would it be best to not have a bailout plan and instead let the market correct itself? The answers to these questions and more are brought forth on this edition of Crosstalk.
