Tom DeWeese is the President of the American Policy Center. He is a recognized leader in the fight to preserve American national sovereignty from intrusive United Nations policies on global governance.
U.S. President George Bush, Mexican President Vincente Fox and Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin came together in March of 2005 to announce the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP). This partnership is basically an extension of NAFTA that established over 20 working groups working on issues pertaining to energy, transportation, financial services, the environment, communication, technology and more. Based on these and other findings, Tom believes this is just part of the groundwork that has been laid for a North American Union.
This Crosstalk highlighted an effort known as The Great North American Phone-In that is set to take place on Tuesday September 16. This is a day where people are encouraged to call the U.S. Senate and the Canadian Parliament to say "no" to the North American Union. Tom laid out an action plan, encouraging American listeners to tell their legislators the following:
1. You oppose the North American Union and the Security and Prosperity Partnership.
2. You support House Concurrent Resolution 40. This is a bill offered in Congress by Representative Virgil Goode of Virginia. It calls for Congress to oppose the North American Union and the NAFTA Super Highway. The bill has 48 co-sponsors, but needs many more.
