Watch Your Mouth

Host:Ingrid Schlueter
Guest:Cathy Mickels
Listen:RealAudio | Windows Media | MP3 | Order Tape or CD

The guest for this Crosstalk, Cathy Mickels, is the author of the book, Spiritual Junkfood: The Dumbing Down of Christian Youth.

Ingrid began by noting the recent passing of comedian George Carlin and the apparent impact he's had on some Christians. Carlin was known for delivering a lewd style of comedy, highlighted by his infamous routine that dealt with seven words no one can say on TV.

Carlin's reliance on vulgar comedy made him a hit, but at one point it also got him into trouble as he was arrested in 1972 at Summerfest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

After his death, Ingrid began noticing Christians who were leaving favorable tributes to Carlin on various blog sites. This is just one sign of how foul talk and filthy language is being tolerated by the Church. A more specific example is Pastor Mark Driscoll of Mars Hill Church in Seattle, Washington. Mark is known as "the cussing pastor."

If you're concerned about the attitude Christians have toward speech today, this program will be of interest to you. It strikes a blow for decency as it encourages people to use a manner of speech that's grounded in the wisdom of God's Word.
