Brannon Howse is an author, speaker, and President of WorldView Weekends. He used his time as guest host of Crosstalk to outline the factors that prove how the law, the U.S. Constitution, and the Bill of Rights have been "turned on their heads."
Brannon points to 3 U.S. Supreme Court rulings from 1940, 1943 and 1947. He explains how these rulings took America's 10 Bill of Rights, the "handcuffs" off the federal government, and sadly placed them on the states and each one of us. The result is that states and individuals are now told by the federal government when they have freedom of religion and when they have freedom of speech, etc. In other words, when something is not listed in the Constitution as being a right of the federal government, that right is supposed to belong to the sovereign states and the people.
In the case of Everson vs. Board of Education, the Supreme Court unconstitutionally linked the 14th Amendment that deals with specific state powers, with the 1st Amendment, which contains the religious establishment clause. The result is that the court reversed the constitutional demand that the 1st Amendment pertain only to the federal government. In doing this they declared that the federal courts were now empowered to restrict religious activities of the federal government, the states, and individuals in those states.
Brannon goes on to detail why some people work to subvert government in this way, noting that in the end, liberty is the casualty.
