This Crosstalk broadcast features a presentation given by Christian apologist Ron Rhodes at a VCY America Rally on September 8, 2007.
Ron began by asking the audience to think about what comes to mind when you hear the word, "Muslim?" How about the word, "Islam?" Do men wearing turbans come to mind? How about the act of bowing in prayer? Veiled women? The Twin Towers?
According to Ron, Islam means "submission." Muslim means "one who submits." In other words, these are individuals who submit to Allah.
There are 1.3 billion Muslims in the world. They comprise 20% of the world's population which means 1 out of every 5 human beings on earth is a Muslim. They are comprised of two groups, the Sunnis who make up about 90% of the Muslim population, and the Shiites.
Islam is a rapidly growing religion, particularly in the United States. In 1990 we had 30 mosques. Today we have 3,000. Today the U.S. is home to 165 Islamic schools, 426 Islamic associations, and 90 Islamic publications.
"Jihad" means to struggle or strive in the path of Allah. Ron noted that on a more popular level, people think of jihad as holy war; the idea being that when Islam is attacked, it is proper to struggle and strive against the enemies of Islam. Suicide bombings are one form of jihad.
Ron teaches listeners about the benefits Islamic martyrs are told they will receive, about the recruitment of children for jihad, about the dangers to the U.S. from Iran, the five doctrines and five obligations that Muslims hold to, and more.
