Why Alan Keyes Left the Republican Party

Host:Vic Eliason
Guest:Alan Keyes
Listen:RealAudio | Windows Media | MP3 | Order Tape or CD

Dr. Alan Keyes is a former State Department official and U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations in the Reagan administration, and has been a presidential candidate.

Dr. Keyes believes that the Republican Party has moved away from its foundation as a party of our national principles; of commitment to our republic and self-government for our people. For this reason, Dr. Keyes announced last Tuesday that he's leaving the Republican Party.

Dr. Keyes described the Republican Party as a dark and confusing place and that there appear to be signs that the leaders no longer have allegiance to the sovereign people of the United States. He cited, as an example, the border security situation and the various problems this has created in terms of police problems, health, and education.

In short, Dr. Keyes believes that our leaders and representatives should show respect for the practical requirements of maintaining our way of life. He noted that because they've let things get out of control to serve their own interests tells us that they no longer care about their oath which is to uphold, protect and defend the constitution that preserves liberty and self-government for all of us.

Vic ended the program with word concerning a 24 year old Richland Center, Wisconsin, man named Gerard Hihn. Gerard was injured in an automobile accident in 2002. Gerard is home and his parents don't want to put him in a nursing home. Many bills have been sustained due to this incident. The insurance settlement hasn't come through yet and as a result, the Hihn family has been financially drained. The Hihn's have been told that if the bill is not paid by 5pm today, the electricity will be shut off. That makes this a life threatening situation because Gerard is on a ventilator. Vic encouraged listeners to contact Richland Electric, the Richland County District Attorney's office, and the Richland County Sheriff's Office.

UPDATE: VCY has learned that as of Monday evening, April 21, Gerard Hihn's power remains on.
