Best of Crosstalk (First Aired April 23, 2008)

Sarah Leslie is a former leader in the homeschooling and pro-life arena. She has authored many articles on education reform and Christian apologetics issues. She and her husband published The Christian Conscience magazine and several books. They are both on the board of directors for Discernment Ministries, Inc. Sarah's article entitled: Dominionism and the Rise of Christian Imperialism was the basis for this program.

Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, Illinois, recently featured the "Shift Conference," a conference for youth leaders. The primary speaker was emerging leader Brian McClaren. Brian McLaren rejects the doctrine of a literal hell as well as the substitutionary atonement of Christ on the Cross for our sins. In his visit to Willow Creek, he openly undermined the doctrine of the second coming of Jesus Christ.

As Sarah points out, McClaren believes that Christian eschatology needs to be reimagined and that Christians need to stop looking to the skies for Christ's return. This will enable them to create heaven right here on earth.

McLaren is just one example of modern Christian leaders who are preaching a Kingdom Now, heaven on earth philosophy. In fact, it mirrors the "Armageddon alternative" taught by New Age teacher Barbara Marx Hubbard.

Other out-workings of dominionism were discussed such as the New Apostolic Reformation teachers, Rick Warren's global P.E.A.C.E. Plan in Rwanda which does not include the preaching of the Gospel, and the Spiritual Warfare movement.
