Tim Lee is the Director of Legal and Public Affairs for The Center for Individual Freedom. He appeared on Crosstalk with Vic Eliason to discuss the left-wing sector of the evangelical community and their efforts related to global warming.
Highlighting this program is the mention of senate legislation known as the Lieberman/Warner Bill. According to Tim, this would essentially impose a cap and trade system on America. This is a bureaucratic concoction under which government creates an arbitrary number of carbon emissions that will be emitted by the nation as a whole. Those carbon credits are then alloted to various businesses. If your business exceeds the number of credits alloted to you because you've polluted more than your alloted amount, you must buy credits from other businesses that are under their amount.
Tim said this has been tried in Europe. He noted that since 2000, and even though Europe has signed on to the Kyoto Protocol, their rate of emissions increase is actually twice that of our nation. This is happening despite the fact that our economy is growing much faster than those of Western European nations.
This Crosstalk also discusses the things that can be done to remind the media that left-wing evangelicals don't speak for all evangelical Christians, how the West should deal with environmental problems, and who stands to gain the most if the Lieberman/Warner Bill passes in congress.
