Emerging Error in Christian Colleges Part 2

Host:Ingrid Schlueter
Listen:RealAudio | Windows Media | MP3 | Order Tape or CD

This Crosstalk revisits the issue of Christian Colleges and the doctrinal trends, such as postmodern theology, that are emerging and causing strife.

On last week's program, Ingrid reported on the doctrinal shift that has been taking place at Cedarville University. Cedarville had extended a speaking invitation to Emergent Church advocate Shane Claiborne whose appearance was eventually canceled.

Shane Claiborne preaches a social gospel and touts having worked with Mother Theresa in Calcutta. Here in the states he has formed a monastic community and writes and speaks with emerging church leaders.

Ingrid reported that someone from Cedarville tried to correct her claiming that they heard Claiborne speak recently at Mount Vernon University where he said that he does not affiliate himself with the emergent movement.

The problem with this is that in the forward of Claiborne's own book, The Irresistible Revolution, Jim Wallis describes Claiborne as being "...one of the best representatives of an emerging Christianity that could change the face of American religion and politics."

On another front, some evangelical campus students are having a very good time, but not in a godly way. Ingrid reported that Cornerstone University, once a biblically run GARBC college, had students dancing to the filthy song "Fergalicious" at their homecoming dance. She also reported that Dr. Joseph Stowell is slated to take over as president of that university shortly. She urged him to hurry as he has a big job ahead of him.
