2008 Presidential Candidates & Family Values

Host:Jim Schneider
Guest:Peter LaBarbera
Listen:RealAudio | Windows Media | MP3 | Order Tape or CD

Peter LaBarbera appeared on this edition of Crosstalk as the Director of Republicans for Family Values.

Jim Schneider began the program by asking LaBarbera, "Do you believe conservative organizations have led family values voters in the wrong direction?"

LaBarbera answered by saying that pro-family groups, while sort of joining conservative talk radio, focused excessively on the faults of some candidates like Mike Huckabee, while ignoring the gaping errors of candidates like Mitt Romney.

LaBarbera was ecstatic at Romney's exit from the election because he feels Romney defrauded not just the Christian movement, but conservatives. This is because LaBarbera believes Romney was in favor of pro-homosexual rights up to the end, and his abortion record was shoddy in spite of his alleged "conversion" to pro-life.

LaBarbera noted how some people look to conservative organizations for the facts. From this perspective, LaBarbera feels the first thing you'd think these organizations would do is to gauge the candidates records on abortion, homosexuality and other social issues. The problem is, some of them supported Romney, and because of this, LaBarbera believes that some conservative leaders and organizations have lost credibility.

On this Crosstalk you'll also learn from LaBarbera where he feels the candidates stand on the issues. This includes the positions of some who aren't getting much press coverage such as Alan Keyes and Ron Paul. Also discussed was the role of African Americans, such as Alan Keyes and Barak Obama, in the political process.
