To begin this edition of Crosstalk, Sandra Tanner tells of how she came out of Mormonism with her late husband Gerald, both having been raised in 5th generation LDS families. In fact, Sandra is a direct descendant of Brigham Young.
Once out of Mormonism, Sandra and Gerald began putting together pamphlets for family members and friends that eventually became a full time research and printing ministry dedicated to leading Mormons to Jesus Christ.
According to Sandra, Mormons believe that men, gods and angels are the same species, the difference is what route you took. Mormons believe that all spirits were born of God and a heavenly mother. They believe our two oldest brothers were Jesus and Lucifer. To Mormons, Lucifer rebelled and became the Devil. Jesus was obedient and became the Son of God on earth, but they claim we are all sons and daughters of God in the same way.
They believe Heavenly Father lived on another earth system, died, resurrected, went to heaven and eventually became God over this world. Mormon men, therefore, believe that they, too, can become a god over a world of their own.
The reason this information is pertinent today is because in his recent speech, presidential candidate Mitt Romney didn't reveal anything about his Mormon faith that would help people overcome their points of concern.
Sandra noted how Romney communicated that if elected, the oath of office that he swears to will be his highest obligation. She wonders how he can be sincere about that when Mormons swear an oath in a temple ritual to be obedient to the Mormon god and to uphold the Mormon church in everything.
On this information packed edition of Crosstalk, Sandra also discusses why Mormonism disqualifies itself from being considered part of historic Christianity, why Mormons believe in polygamy in spite of the fact that many do not practice it, why Mormons haven't disavowed their doctrine of race, and more.
