Keepers of the Springs

Recently, Ingrid read a news headline that stated: "Laura Bush No Longer Baking Cookies." The article covered the fact that the First Lady is apparently getting more involved in national and international issues. This reference to cookie baking was taken from Hillary Clinton who said years ago, when her husband was running for President, that she wanted to get involved in her husband's administration because she wasn't the type to stay home and bake cookies.

This is just another example of the current mindset in Western culture that communicates the false belief that women of substance are only those who "slay dragons" in the business world or perhaps do something similar and don't view taking care of hearth and home as significant.

In response, Ingrid wrote an article for her blogsite that she reads on this edition of Crosstalk. The article is entitled: "Becoming a Woman of Influence--The Case for Cookie Bakers". The idea here is not to downplay or criticize women who must work outside the home, but again, to warn of the cultural mindset that tries to make women feel as though they aren't becoming fulfilled unless they pursue full time careers outside the home.

Ingrid also read a story from the book, Keepers of the Springs, by Peter Marshall, former Chaplain of the U.S. Senate, which demonstrated the importance of those who are unknown to the public, but because they are faithful to their tasks have a profound impact on the entire community.
