Math Instruction

Host:Jim Schneider
Guest:Larry Shiller
Listen:RealAudio | Windows Media | MP3 | Order Tape or CD

Larry Shiller is the President of Shiller Math, publishers of a math curriculum for classrooms in the home.

Larry believes there's a joy in math but that culturally, math is not valued in America. Perhaps it should be because according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, if you have a solid math foundation, you'll have a 350% increase in pay. In addition, NASA estimates that 2 million jobs will go unfulfilled in engineering and technology next year because Americans don't have the work skills to be competitive in the global marketplace.

Some students understand math and are excited about it while others don't seem to understand it. Because of varying learning styles, Larry believes students need to be able to work at their own pace and work within the framework of their own skills and to not have math force-fed to them.

On this program you'll learn what parents can do to help students that are struggling with math, how math can be learned through body movements, the details of the Shiller math curriculum and more.
