These days the public schools aren't up to the same academic standards that they once were. Combine that with the Bible's instruction to parents to train up their children, and you can see how parents should give serious consideration to home schooling.
The forces against home schooling are still alive and well in spite of the fact that it's legal in all 50 states. For example, the NEA continues to push for legislation requiring home school parents to be certified and for the curriculums to be government approved.
Other cultural forces are also attempting to influence the image of home schooling. This point was emphasized when Jim spoke briefly with WVCY staff member Jesse Muehlbauer. Jesse is a former home school student who wrote to General Mills because of a television commercial, in which a boy complains about the "bad day" he has been having, with the last and apparently "worst" problem being his mother's decision to "home school" him.
This program also offers an update on Melissa Busekros, the girl at the center of a home school controversy in Germany, and a description of HSLDA's core function, which is legal protection for home school families.
