Best of Crosstalk (First Aired May 9, 2007)

Host:Ingrid Schlueter
Guest:Scott Aniol
Listen:RealAudio | Windows Media | MP3 | Order Tape or CD

Scott Aniol is the Associate Pastor of First Baptist Church in Rockford, Illinois. In addition to his pastoral credentials, he has an extensive music education background.

Pastor Aniol believes that there is a musical generation gap within Christianity because many churches haven't taught their children the great hymns of the faith.

He notes how children can glorify God by being fun and silly but when it comes time to sing about God and learn Scripture, that's when children need to understand that these are moments when seriousness must be the norm.

Pastor Aniol also points out that great hymnody is important to everyone for two reasons. First of all is the fact that putting God's Word to hymnody helps us to memorize God's truth. Secondly, good hymnody goes beyond the mind and helps take the truth to our hearts, teaching us what we should feel about the truth and how we should express it rightly to the Lord.
