Importance of Christians Voting

Host:Jim Schneider
Guest:David Crowe
Listen:RealAudio | Windows Media | MP3 | Order Tape or CD

David Crowe is a Vietnam veteran and is the Founder and Director of Restore America, an organization that began in 1999. Restore America encourages Christians to become informed, get to the polls, and vote for a Christian worldview.

David describes how Christians have a deep misunderstanding of what their responsibility and role is as citizens. This has led to a passivity regarding public policy.

For example there are 52 million, voter eligible, evangelical, Bible believing Christians in America. This is the largest voting block in America. In 2000, only 27 million from that group voted. 14 million, who were registered, did not vote and another 11 million were unregistered. That turned around in 2004 to 33 million that did vote. Then in 2006, Christian voter turnout dropped from 33 million to 24 million.

Why is this happening? David cites two main reasons. First of all, pastors are often ignorant regarding the true facts of American history. Secondly, some pastors are afraid of losing major donors or tax exempt status if they speak on sensitive moral issues.

A recent phenomenon connected with this topic involves liberals that are co-opting the spiritual strategies of Christian conservatives in order to deceive them and obtain their votes.
