Hate Crimes Legislation

Host:Vic Eliason
Guest:Jim Schneider
Listen:RealAudio | Windows Media | MP3 | Order Tape or CD

Vic Eliason gave an update on Melissa Busekros, the 15 year old German girl discussed on Crosstalk Feb. 9, Feb. 12. and Feb. 15. Melissa, as previously reported, was taken from her parents by authorities and placed in a psychiatric ward. An update reports that she has now been placed in a foster home, but the location is not known. Her parents are now allowed one visit a week with her, but at a designated government building.

The remainder of the program dealt with pending hate crimes legislation labeled as HR 254. The problem with such legislation is that it is a stepping stone to further legislation that could have a chilling impact on freedom of expression, especially speech and communication of biblical principles by Christians.

HR 254 was introduced January 5th in the House of Representatives. It has no co-sponsors but could come up for a vote at any time.
