California Anti-Spanking Bill

Host:Vic Eliason
Guest:Randy Thomasson
Listen:RealAudio | Windows Media | MP3 | Order Tape or CD

Randy Thomasson is the president of the Campaign for Children and Families.

A proposed California law would arrest and jail parents that use spanking to correct their children.

ABC 755, a bill that was introduced in the California Assembly on the 22nd, would criminalize all parents, especially mothers that use a stick, switch or paddle. This bill, by the way, replaced an earlier version that was withdrawn.

The bill would also allow a judge to rule that even an open hand correction would be unlawful because nowhere does the bill state that spanking by hand would continue to be permitted.

This Crosstalk also discusses the advantages of spanking with testimonies from listeners. Some testimonies look at spanking from a parental point of view, while others center around past spanking experiences from childhood.
