Best of Crosstalk: (First Aired January 30, 2007)

Host:Jim Schneider
Guest:Jim Boulet
Listen:RealAudio | Windows Media | MP3 | Order Tape or CD

Jim Boulet is the Executive Director of English First, a national grassroots lobbying organization that works to make English the official language of America.

Jim describes the illegal alien as just a human being, not a superman working 90 hours a week like the amnesty advocates would like us to believe. They work hard because they aren't eligible for many of the government benefits that low-income citizens receive. In other words, for the illegal alien, it's work or starve.

What will be the incentive for illegal aliens to work hard once they're granted amnesty? As they begin tapping into the benefit pool, what's the cost going to be, not merely for the benefits themselves, but for the paperwork and translators to communicate these options to those who don't speak English?

Of legislative importance, it was noted that congress will be introducing the National Languages Act and congressman Peter King will be introducing legislation to rescind Bill Clinton's Executive Order 13166. This order says that language is a protected civil right, and any recipient of federal funds has to function in any language anyone speaks at any time.
