Where are We Headed Politically?

Host:Vic Eliason
Guest:John Le Boutillier
Listen:RealAudio | Windows Media | MP3 | Order Tape or CD

John LeBoutillier is a former U.S. Congressman, has both hosted and been the guest on numerous talk programs, and is a commentator for NewsMax.com His NewsMax commentary today was titled "Bush's Hand Forces a Third Card", in which he asks if it is time for a third political party.

Changes due to the recent Democratic victories at the polls in November were discussed, including the new Democratic majorities (and Republican minorities) in Congress. The war in Iraq was also a major topic, as the election appeared to be a repudiation of the war. The quick removal of Donald Rumsfeld as Secretary of Defense, the release of the Baker-Hamilton Iraq Study Group report which was critical of current war strategies, and statements by both Democrats and Republicans that a change is needed, were all seen as results of the election results. Nevertheless, an additional 20,000 troops are to be deployed there.

The possibility was raised that that a "third party" might emerge due to widespread public dissatisfaction with both major parties, especially relating to Iraq.
