AIDS Conference Speakers/Signs of the Season

As this Crosstalk aired, the AIDS summit at Rick Warren's southern California Saddleback Church was taking place. Dr. Wiley Drake, the recently elected 2nd Vice President of the Southern Baptist Convention, also pastors the 1st Southern Baptist Church of Buena Vista Park, California, a church near Saddleback. He appeared on Crosstalk to discuss his views on the conference and summarize the biblical response that would get to the true root of the AIDS problem.
Vic then dealt with two "signs of the season."
A Christmas themed event to raise money at a New York state public elementary school has been modified to accomodate a parents complaint that the program would illegally spotlight a religious figure. In this case, the religious figure is...Santa Claus!
Best Buy refuses to use "Merry Christmas" in holiday advertising. Vic presents details concerning his call to their corporate office and then opens the phone lines to get listener opinions as to whether or not they will shop there for purchases this Christmas season.
