Jeff Noblit is with Anchored in Truth Ministries and is also a pastor with First Baptist Church of Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
The current church environment is not conducive to steadfastness. According to Jeff Noblit, we have a Madison Avenue view of church and pastoral success where often the biblical essentials of accountability and discipline are very shallowly applied or not applied at all. All of this increases the possibility of moral failure among pastors as we've seen lately in the news.
In addition, Jeff sees that the "drop the kids off to the Sunday school youth experts" approach hasn't worked. The result is that youth pastors have relied on gimmicks and fads, doctoring up the gospel to get youth to accept it. The result is that churches have been losing youth, not retaining them.
In order to prevent such failures we need to start by educating our youth properly in the Christian faith. In response, Jeff discussed an upcoming student discipleship conference. "Reality Check" is the theme and the purpose of the conference is to look at what Christians are calling youth ministry, what's being done with students, and is it biblically valid. The conference will be taking place December 27th through the 29th.
