Eastern Mysticism in Evangelicalism

Vic began this program with an action point concerning Navy chaplain Gordon Klingenschmitt who was courtmarshalled for praying in Jesus' name.
The issue is now reversed with the chaplain having brought action against the Secretary of the Navy because he feels his First Amendment rights have been violated. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld had promised to rescind the restriction of not being able to pray in Jesus' name. This has not happened.
Vic encouraged listeners to call Donald Rumsfeld's office and ask them why the Secretary of Defense has not defended chaplains in their right to pray according to their faith.
Brian Flynn is the author of the book, Running Against the Wind. The book documents Brian's exit from a life where he was involved in the New Age movement.
Brian begins by discussing the contemplative prayer movement. He believes this is a reaction to empty preaching where people don't have assurance that God is really part of their life. The reaction in that absence is to obtain spiritual growth by embracing a new practice or experience that will make the individual feel closer to God. As Brian points out, however, growth comes only from the means of grace: prayer, studying the Word and fellowship.
Other experience based teachings, techniques and aberrant philosophies that have crept into the church affecting both adults and youth were discussed. These include the concept of sacred spaces, labrynth walking, Christian yoga and the pragmatism of Rick Warren.

Action Points
To contact the office of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, to ask why he has not defended chaplains in their right to pray according to their faith, as he had promised Senator Warner before Congress ordered the miltary to stop restricting Chaplain prayers, especially as related to Chaplain Gordon Klingenschmitt, who is still being punished under this discredited policy:
