Dr. John C. Whitcomb has been a professor of Old Testament and Theology for over 50 years, and is recognized as a leading Biblical scholar. He also is known for joining with the late Dr. Henry Morris to author The Genesis Flood: The Biblical Record and its Scientific Implications, which became a major catalyst for the modern Biblical creation movement. Some of his other books on creation are The Early Earth, and The World that Perished. Dr. Whitcomb has also written commentaries on Esther and Daniel, plus Bible charts, Biblical and theological articles.
Dr. Whitcomb told how as a young man he believed in evolution, and in his early days as a Christian, believed in creation but subscribed to the "gap theory", which suggest that there may have been billions of years between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2, in order to believe in creation, but also to allow for evolution. A lecture by Dr. Henry Morris caused him to re-think this belief, especially since it conflicted with other Biblical references to creation. His studies led him to collaborate with Dr. Morris on The Genesis Flood.
Belief in the 6-day creation is critical, because respect for the text of the Bible in Genesis is foundational to a respect for the rest of Scripture, including the Gospel and the work and sacrifice of Jesus Christ for sin.
Callers asked questions and some challenged Dr. Whitcomb to defend his positions, which he was quite willing to do.
