What Happens When Churches Go Purpose Driven

Yesterday's program highlighted a leaflet by Dr. Noah Hutchings who is the president of Southwest Radio Church. The leaflet outlines the steps that can be seen as a church moves from a traditional model to that of becoming a "purpose driven" church.

On this Crosstalk, Dr. Hutchings points out how people often aren't told about the fact that a major change is taking place in the overall operation of their church until about half-way through the purpose driven process.

Dr. Hutchings experienced one of these transformations first hand while he was an active participant in the teaching ministry of a growing, conservative, evangelical church in Oklahoma. Half of the supporting members left and eventually the church had to be remortgaged.

He recounts this experience, discussing the trail of confusion that can be left behind when churches adopt the purpose driven model, and Vic reviews Dr. Hutchings 24 point list of purpose driven changes.
