Missouri Stem Cell Research Initiative

Ingrid described a "ballot initiative" going before Missouri voters this November, called "Amendment 2: The Missouri Stem Cell Research and Cures Initiative". This proposed amendment to the Missouri State Constitution claims to ban human cloning, but in reality it will work to do just the opposite because cloning takes place, but there will be no implantation of the new life.
In fact, the new cloned embryos would be required to be destroyed after 14 days, but by then scientists will have harvested embryonic stem cells from them for experimentation in an attempt to develop cures for diseases. The laboratories doing the research would then be able to patent and profit from any successful cures, unlike those working with adult stem cells, which have produced a number of cures, but which cannot be patented.
If passed, this amendment could establish a constitutional right for women to be paid for their eggs; in essence, allowing for the development of a market for the trafficking of human eggs. The result would be the exploitation of women--mostly poor--with some of them suffering injury, infertility, or worse because of the procedures.
Ingrid noted that this amendment would usurp the procreative process that God has created and legitimizes the cloning of human beings as a constitutional right. It alsomandates the destruction of human beings. As a constitutional amendment, it could not be modified or overturned by the Missouri legislature; only a new amendment process could stop taxpayer funding of these cloning experiments.
Ingrid also mentioned the We Had Abortions campaign which is detailed in the October 10th issue of Ms. Magazine, and she also discusses the effeminizing of the gospel.
