The home school movement was born from within the fires of persecution in the early to mid 1980's. This was around the time that president Ronald Reagan appointed a commission to look into public education. This resulted in a publication called, A Nation at Risk. This report exposed the problems within the public education system and caused people to take a hard look at education in America. For some, that meant seeking other options.
It's from this perspective that Chris Klicka, Chief Counsel for the Home School Legal Defense Association, wrote the book, Home School Heros. The book recounts about 100 stories of pioneering parents who followed the call of God on their lives to educate their children at home and help make home schooling legal for all of us.
Chris notes that the United States must not ratify the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child. This is due to the fact that treaties finalized by the U.S. become binding and the law of the land according to our constitution. This means that if our government were to ratify this treaty, many victories won on behalf of home schooling in America would be reversed.
