Election Year Church Ethics
| Host: | Jim Schneider |
| Guest: | Bill Saunders & Mat Staver |
| Listen: | RealAudio | Windows Media | MP3 | Order Tape or CD |
The first quarter hour featured Bill Saunders, a senior fellow in the human rights council for the Family Research Council.
In an election period many pastors avoid numerous social issues pertinent to the congregation for fear of losing their tax exempt status.
What can be discussed? Bill says as long as the pastor doesn't name candidates, but instead talks about important issues and then encourages the congregation to vote according to those values, that's legal.
Mat Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel was the guest for the remainder of the program.
Mat began his segment by discussing HR 2679, the Public Expression in Religion Act of 2005. This act would stop the ACLU from getting attorneys fees, damages and other costs at taxpayer expense whenever they file suit over the establishment clause.
Also discussed was the issue of churches that might want to hold candidate forums, voter registration, church referendum suppport, and also 501c3 status.
