Tom Kilgannon is a leading authority on the United Nations. He is the author of the book, Diplomatic Divorce: Why America Should End Its Love Affair with the United Nations.
The U.N. was started in 1945. It began as an idea for an international forum for nations to discuss problems of mutual concern. Its two main goals were to help maintain international peace and security and to promote human rights.
The U.N. has not been able to live up to either goal. Instead of helping to maintain international peace, the U.N. has only exacerbated problems between nations. We saw an example of this recently when the current Secretary General, Kofi Annan, met with the president of Iran and didn't hold them to the agreed upon deadline when they were to stop their uranium enrichment project.
Tom covered other points showing how the U.N. threatens our security. They include: Could Bill Clinton be the next Secretary General of the U.N. while his wife reigns as president of the U.S., global taxation, the U.N threat to men and women in our armed forces, American judicial opinons quoting international law, the U.N. threat to private gun ownership, U.N. control of children, and reformation of the U.N.
