Ingrid presented portions of an interview by Minneapolis Christian Talk Show host, Todd Friel with a Hindu, Swami Param. Swami Param is from the Classical Yoga Hindu Academy in New Jersey..
There is a dramatic increase in the use of what is being called "Christian Yoga" or "Faith Yoga" in the United States, often sponsored by churches who say that the Hindo elements are replaced with Christian ones, so it enables relaxation, spiritual understanding, and enhanced oneness with Christ while providing physical exercise..
In the interview, Swami Param took issue with Christians using what he sees as a distinctly Hindu practice. He compared it to a situatiation where he, as a Hindu. would invite people to come to a "Baptism", during which time they would all participate in underwater exercises. Just as that would be offensive to Christians, so the use of Yoga in Christian circles is offensive to Hindus.
The Swami said those people who look to Yoga as a way to enhance their Christian experience are weak Christians. When asked what they should do, he said to "Stop it!". Just as Baptistm is a sacred ceremony for Christians, he said, Yoga is a sacred ceremony for Hindus.
Ingrid commented on the increasing lack of discernment among Christians, even in many evangelical and fundamental churches, which is allowing non-Christian practices into the church.
