Navy Prayer Discrimination, and Government Waste

Host:Vic Eliason
Guest:Chaplain Gordon Klingenschmitt and Tom Schatz
Listen:RealAudio | Windows Media | MP3 | Order Tape or CD

Vic Eliason opened this edition of Crosstalk with an update on yesterday's program regarding Chaplain Gordon Klingenschmitt. Vic reported that many, many phone calls have been coming in to the offices of senators Lindsey Graham, John Warner and Carl Levin regarding support for House Resolution 5122, legislation that allows prayers to be made in the name of Jesus.

Chaplain Klingenschmitt reported that he just received information that the Secretary of the Navy is going to defend the policy that requires chaplains to pray non-sectarian prayers.

Tom Schatz is the president of Citizens Against Government Waste, a non-partisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating fraud, waste and mismanagement in government.

CAGW has saved taxpayers more than 830 billion dollars over 22 years.

Tom gave out examples of their "oinker" awards, which are awards for pork barrel spending. Examples given included: 1 million dollars for a water free urinal conservation initiative along with half a million dollars for a North Carolina teapot museum.
