Peter LaBarbera is the president of Americans for Truth, and Mat Staver is the founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel.
According to Peter LaBarbera, in 2005, the Illinois Times newspaper ran a story about a man named Dr. Michael Campion, and his position on the board of the Illinois Family Institute, a pro-family organization. The newspaper is said to have described the institute as radical, anti-gay and anti-choice. As a result of the article, the city council of Springfield ceased doing business with Dr. Campion, even though he was considered to be a highly competant psychological screener of city personnel.
Eventually another liberal organization, this time in Minneapolis, Minnesota, discovered that Dr. Campion had been let go from Springfield. LaBarbera reported that the Minneapolis police department, who had been using Dr. Campion to screen department candidates, has allegedly fired him due to his past affiliation with the Illinois Family Institute.
