This program demonstrated how we are the heirs to a wonderful legacy of psalmody and hymnody. The Psalms have been the songbook of God's people dating back 3000 years. Only in the last 150 years has Psalm singing all but vanished in our churches.
Deep and doctrinal hymns are also the heritage of the Christian church and these likewise have been jettisoned by many churches in favor of contemporary music that is also doctrinally vacuous or Gospel songs that, while evangelistic in outreach, are not the powerful worship hymns of the past.
Ingrid features examples from both areas of Christian music history. She begins with metrical Psalms put to music from the CD, Psalms of the Trinity Psalter. Selectons include: Psalm 146, 116, and 110.
Hymn selections, from the CD, Sing Ye Heavens: Hymns For All Time, include: Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence; Lo, He Comes With Clouds Descending; Drop, Drop Slow Tears and Amazing Grace. The two CD's were offered on the program.
