At the top of the program Jim reported on two high court decisions on the marriage front. New York's highest court recently ruled 4-2 in favor of traditional marriage to uphold New York's constitution barring same sex marriage.
The Georgia Supreme Court upheld their state constitutional amendment protecting marriage between one man and one woman. The decision upheld the 77% margin of victory vote from November of 2004.
Dr. David Prentice is the Senior Fellow for Life Sciences at the Family Research Council. He appeared on Crosstalk to give details regarding 3 pieces of Senate legislation that will affect stem cell research.
The first is HR 810, the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act. This would allow federal funds to be used so that any human embryo could become a target to be destroyed for stem cell research.
Senate Bill 3504, the Fetus Farming Prohibition Act: This bill would prohibit someone from taking a human embryo created by fertilization or by cloning, gestating it for a number of months, and then aborting that human fetus for spare parts.
Senate Bill 2754, the Alternative Pluripotent Stem Cell Therapies Enhancement Act: This act would give scientists an incentive to come up with other ways to get good stem cells that are flexible, and do so without destroying a human enbryo.
