This program first aired on February 27, 2006.
David Barton is an historian, the president of Wallbuilders, and an author who's latest book is entitled, The Question of Freemasonry and the Founding Fathers.
As the title of Barton's book suggests, one point of discussion among historians is whether or not our nation's founders were Freemasons. Barton notes that of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, 5 for certain, and possibly 9 were Freemasons. At the time of the constitutional convention, 12 of the 55 founders were Freemasons. Of these numbers, Barton states that some of these men were inactive Freemasons.
Barton also shows how certain masonic beliefs, like the blood oaths of today, did not exist during the time of the founders; that in fact, a paganizing of Freemasonry began once Christians started leaving the organization.
