The dialectic process of communication originates with Satan from the Garden of Eden but is popularly known as the invention of G. W.F. Hegel in the 19th century. This process involves three steps: a thesis, an antithesis that contradicts the thesis, and the resulting synthesis. The old way of communication was didactic--black and white, it is written, etc.
Today the dialectic process dominates interpersonal communication, even in churches where instead of right and wrong, we insist upon evaluating positions in a way that never hurts the feelings of others. It's all about redefining a situation through dialogue (thesis/antithesis struggle) in order to create an environment where change (synthesis) is easy. This is done because the focus today is on feelings and group- think, not necessarily truth.
